Ethics and the Mortgage Crisis A Social Justice Issue

Ethics in Journalism down In the Valley

Featured Speaker: Mr. John Markoff, a New York Times financial reporter, Silicon Valley.
Location: California State University, Chico, California
Attendance: Over 700 AIE members and public
Synopsis: Ethics in journalism and ethics in the Silicon Valley; how important it is for companies to always put ethics in the forefront including journalism.

2006 – 2007: “Ethics in Politics” Mayoral Series

This series was co-sponsored by the Leo T. McCarthy Institute of the University of San Francisco and was held over four evenings. The most important element in the Mayoral series was that each of the speakers stayed away from partisan politics and focused on the Ethical Challenges that face the Chief Executive Officer of the City of San Francisco.

• Former Mayor Frank Jordan
• Former Speaker of the California House of Representative and Former Mayor of San Francisco Willie Brown
• Former Mayor of San Francisco Art Agnos
Location: University of San Francisco
Attendance: 400-700 U.S.F. students, AIE members and public attended per evening.
Synopsis:
Mayor Newsom: The Mayor’s struggles with ethics and some of his positions on major issues facing the City.
Former Mayor Frank Jordan: A poignant account of his struggle to maintain his high ethical standards in the face of pressures from friends and foes alike.
Former Speaker of the California House of Representatives and Former Mayor of San Francisco Willie Brown: A review of his political history and how he has striven to keep his promise to his grandmother, that he would never do anything to lower him in her eyes. This was a very humorous and fascinating journey through the world of San Francisco and California politics.
Former Mayor Art Agnos: He shared his career in the Mayor’s office, and detailed his close alliance with Leo McCarthy.
